Again from PricewaterhouseCoopers but this time related to gaming revenue. Asia is going to overtake the United States in 2013 for the most lucrative region for casino revenue. Looking at current projections and the Economic situation in the region, it really comes as no surprise. Macau is the main region which is making the most money. They have a great variety of casinos from different parts of the world and attracting many people from Asia and especially from Mainland China. Another reason for the rise of Asia is the emergence of Singapore as a gambling hub. Ever since they opened their market for casinos, they have been attracting people from all over South East Asia. They offer something different to Macau, they have entertainment among other things in their resorts. Earlier this month Macau posted its November gambling revenues,
showing a 32.9% increase in revenue to 23 billion patacas ($2.9
billion) compared to the same month last year.

Source: http://www.marketwatch.com

Image: Images_of_Money
That is why more foreign companies will be looking at the virtual route when looking to expand in China and the Asia Pacific region. Retail sales in the Asia-Pacific are expected
to grow at an average 6 per cent annually to US$6.6 trillion this year
and US$10.5 trillion in 2015, online shopping turnover in Asia will
grow by an average of 20 per cent a year in the coming years. During the survey, the people from the Mainland said they went online and purchased all kinds of products, anging from clothing, to electrical appliances, groceries, jewellery and watches. "More retailers, especially overseas brands
that haven't yet penetrated the mainland market, are considering

When entering their site, you have the choice to enter the different regional sites and see the offerings and special events going on there. They were able to get a good domain name which gives them excellent SEO rankings and it is easy to promote and remember. Using the domain name on their entrance, lets more people remember it and go back and share it on their social networking sites and also with their friends. It is becoming a trend now for eateries to go online so people can look at their menus, special events and make reservations too. A great domain name and a great bar too I must say.

Their sales figures have gone down in Europe where the demand for the scooters have been decreasing lately but Asia is there to the rescue yet again with sales in China and India doing most of the damage. Piaggio has said it wants Asian sales to
account for 50 per cent of total sales in 2014, up from a third in 2010,
with Europe representing the other half. Net debt is targeted at about
€340 million in 2014, slightly lower than at the end of 2011, with an
improved net debt/ebitda ratio of 1.1 times, from 1.7 times. The buying power in Asian regions keep going up and people are doing whatever they can to improve their lives, this can be seen in buying more products and spending lavishly too. In many Asian countries like India, China, Taiwan, people do still use scooters a lot more than cars because it can be a good way to evade the traffic and also its a custom there. That is Asia for you in a nutshell, even with all the money they can spend, they still stick to their roots sometime.

Source: http://www.scmp.com

Image: mick/Lumix

The Indian Government recently passed a new law where it would be easier for foreigners to come into the country and set up their own shop. Before there were a complicated set of rules and regulations for entering the Indian market and that deterred many people and maybe that is why people preferred to enter markets like China or some places in South East Asia. Now, things are going to get a little more competitive but smaller companies who are not able to compete with the big players should remember this. You can have most of the benefits that these big powerful companies have by having an online presence for your company. There are big online portals where you can showcase your products there or even you can set up your own site with domain extensions for that region or even have the domain name in a local language to target more of the people there. By having more physical shops in the region, it will also help online shops since people can go to physical shop to try on goods and know their size and make the purchases online next time.

Source: http://online.wsj.com

Image: Mediocre2010
Black Friday has become a very special event in the US and gradually all over the world now. It is the Friday after Thanks Giving day and all stores would offer some great discounts and huge queues outside stores in the morning are a common occurrence. This year, sales were at decent levels and one reason why there were not that great was Cyber Monday. This is the Monday after the holiday and there are plenty of deals online for people. Like Groupon, they simply log on and make the purchase online and have the coupon sent to them. Yet another sign that the internet is changing the way we normally live. When offering discounts in your retail store, make sure you are also doing something online. For example, working with some group coupon sites to have your product there for more exposure or simply having a dedicated website for a special occasion, say Christmas, New Years and so on, it could help lead traffic to the main site in the long term too. Internet now is the way of life for many people so we have to adjust to make sure we have a strategy to work together with it too.

Source: http://www.cnbc.com

Image: crd!
People migrating from the countryside to cities, a rising middle class
and abundant natural resources are three key factors that could make
Indonesia one of the world's 10 largest economies in 2020 and among the
top 6 in 2030, Standard Chartered said in a report a week ago. After the 1997 financial crisis, the growth of Indonesia has been overshadowed by the growth of India and China and rightly so but now it seems like it is going to be Indonesia's time. The country, which has a population of around 240 million, is the biggest economy in
Southeast Asia and is a member of the Group of 20 nations. With more affluent people, willing to spend and expand, its economy has gone on a positive run for a very long time. More people in the country are going online and with more Government investment, it is expected to grow even further in the coming years. Any company looking to expand to the Asian region now should take notice that it is not just India, China or even Indonesia, many other smaller nations are making their mark and the whole region has to be taken into consideration.

Source: http://www.retailinasia.com

Image: Yan Arief

Many companies back home are cutting cost and not looking to expand but the situation is so different back in Asia where the big companies are always expanding and looking to add to their manpower. The big executive roles are still needed and that is why the big players are looking there to settle down. Situation has definitely changed from some years ago. The agencies mention that now they are receiving more inquiries about positions than the actual positions they have. That is the pull factor of Asia now and this trend is set to continue for many years to come when looking at the financial situation around the world. There are more C jobs which stand for chief executives, chief financial officers and chief operating officers in Asia right now, and in Europe, they are not getting the stability they wish for because of the uncertainty in the markets there. Banks in the United States and Europe -
including HSBC, Bank of America, BNY Mellon and Barclays - have
outlined more than 90,000 job cuts in recent months as part of broader
cost-cutting initiatives. Some multinational firms, such as mobile phone
maker Nokia and BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion, have also
announced thousands of lay-offs. It is looking like Asia is the place to be now for a stable job and career too.

Source: http://www.scmp.com

Image: Mykl Roventine

The big part is that there is still plenty of room for further increase as more of the Chinese population come online. In 2015, the number of consumers accessing the net is due to hit 703m,
still only representing 51% of the domestic population. By this time,
329m buyers will be making purchases via the web. With more Government investment, more people are expected to be able to go online in the near future. Also with mobile internet going up too, more people will be able to go online and thus be able to make purchases of products at an easier and quicker pace. Now with more gTLD and IDN domain names in the market, it will make it easier for more of the people who cannot type in English to be able to go online and access websites to make purchases among other things, It is very important for big and small companies to make sure customers can find them, number one rule of marketing something. Going IDN makes perfect sense, especially when looking at numbers from China.

Source: http://www.warc.com

Image: LuMaxArt
Barclays is taking a risky move by looking to expand in the North Asian region. Mainly in the Mainland, Hong Kong and also in Taiwan. According to industry estimates, the bank has
about 100 relationship managers in the region, and Asia- Pacific
contributes about 10 to 15 per cent (or £17 billion to £25.5 billion) of
global assets of £170 billion. As the West sees more fluctuations in the economy highlighted by the problems in Greece and Italy, more banks are looking to the Asian region which seems to be more stable and more money coming in too. Also results were coming in of the region having the most number of millionaires too and that is another pull reason for these banks to enter this still flourishing market. Another thing is they are becoming more active in reaching out to banks to help them with their financial needs. They see they are able to use their money to make more money. This trend looks set to continue for many years to come and you can expect to hear more news like that in the near future.

They were able to kill 2 birds with one stone, going to the best places around the city, meeting celebrities along the way and also enjoy a great Sunday out with their friends and loved ones. The weather did not disappoint too and there was not much trouble for every participant to reach their checkpoints. Using the ".Asia" domain name gives a chance for this competition to move to other regions in Asia without doing much to change the domain name. Also in the future, there is also a chance that it might become an Asian wide competition resulting in more attention, more prize money perhaps and more exposure.
