Over the years, the chunk of their sales have come from their own European regions but now the tide is changing and they have Asia to thank for the bulk of their profits this time round. Pierre Pringuet, chief executive, said there was no sign of a slowdown
in Asia, which has also become the group's largest profits generator,
leapfrogging Europe and the Americas. For those not familiar, this is the company that owns Absolut vodka, Chivas Regal whisky and Martell Cognac. The region the company has to thank the most is China, where the love for Whiskey and other spirits has shot up recently. China's taste for cognac and whisky drove like-for-like sales growth of
14 per cent in Asia, easily outpacing the Americas, Europe and France.

The pull factor is there in Asia now, people around the region, not just in China, India but also in South East Asian nations are spending cash on luxurious items. Many years ago, alcohol in these regions would be considered luxury but right now it has almost become a necessity. Every restaurant, bar or household has some form of alcohol in there and companies stand to benefit a lot. With this increased popularity, people will be going online more to check different mixes and different kinds of drinks to make with different kinds of alcohol.

Source: http://www.ft.com

Image: Darwin Bell

Indonesia first was not on this list but it has become an important market for the digital revolution now. These 5 countries will have together 1.2bn internet users by the year 2015. And this
figure is low, when one considers the internet penetration as a
percentage of the population in these countries will still be less than
50 per cent. Twenty percent of China's population owns a personal
computer, compared with 32 percent in Brazil and Russia and 90
percent in the U.S. and Japan, Boston Consulting said. In India, only 7 percent of the population was using the
Internet at the end of 2009, the lowest of the five countries in
the report. There are many opportunities for E-Commerce and online targeting now in Asia but the group encouraged people to act right now!

It is not just for now but the future for many years to come, the bulk of people online are going to be in the Asia Pacific region. The 3 main markets of China, India and Indonesia will be the 3 main players along with Russia and Brazil. With more people online, it is like the size of market increases, so people wanting to sell items online, spread message, sell a service or just outreach, going online is the best and most cost-effective way. This report from the group confirms what keepclicking.asia has been mentioning for many months, Future is Asian, act now!

Source: http://blogs.ft.com

Image: LuMaxArt

Now the government of Taiwan is taking all of this online. Residents of Hong Kong are able to get their visa for Taiwan online and for no cost and they can print their visa from home. From today, applicants can print their own
visa from the website. On arrival in Taiwan, they present the visa with
their passport at immigration and officers stamp the visa, but not
the passport. The visa fee is waived. The visas are also available to
Macau citizens. It will help out a lot and will probably result in more tourists from Hong Kong heading down to Taiwan too for a vacation with friends or family.

The internet usage has gone and help millions of people worldwide. People have been busy setting up E-Commerce sites so people can buy and sell things easier. You are able to book air tickets and hotels and makes people lives easier and this is another example of good usage online and help people. The range of activities and businesses online show the great scope of business there. You could be a small company but with the help on the virtual world, you can expand and slowly move your business to other countries at a low cost.

Source: http://www.scmp.com

Image: lemuelinchrist

The internet has shown its true power yet again. This time it is making the printed version of the world famous oxford dictionary becoming less and less valuable. Oxford University Press, the publisher, said Sunday that burgeoning
demand for the dictionary's online version has far outpaced demand for
the printed versions. People are now going online and reading the dictionary and finding meaning to the words they do now know. It has added advantages, after people search the meaning of words, they can simply go to another window and look for pictures about that to get a better picture of what it is. Also, it can be updated almost daily. When you get the print version, there might be some words which are not there yet but the online version allows for instant updates and new words can be added in almost daily. The online Oxford English Dictionary now gets 2 million hits a month
from subscribers. The current printed edition -- a hefty 20-volume, 750
pound ($1,165) set published in 1989 -- has sold about 30,000 sets in
total.

With the advancement of technology, with new devices like the IPad coming out, more of these books are expected to use the online avenue to reach out to its people. There are so many advantages and the only disadvantage I can think of is people miss the feel of holding a book and flicking through the pages. It is all about getting use to the new technology. It allows for so much flexibility, pictures, videos, instant translations can be added to texts. Online reference books are definitely going to take off now.

Source: http://www.businessweek.com/

Image:
There are plans in place to have 8 new models of the Ford car ready in the Indian market by the middle of the decade. Ford also recently invested US$500 million on a new engine plant in the region too. The Indian market is growing about 17% a year, as consumers move from
two-wheeled scooters and motorcycles into inexpensive small cars. The move into India is not just for the Indian market but for the whole Asian region. Ford will hope for more of the same success of its recent Figo model which was sold 30,000 units in just 25 weeks. Yes they will be doing much of the same in India to attend to the mass population but there are also plans in place to attend to the luxury car market in India and the Asian region. Joe Hinrichs, president of Ford's Asia Pacific and Africa regions said, "China and India are the two most important markets for Ford vehicles
globally and we are set to increase our commitment and stake in India,"

Ford is banking on Asia, they expect 70% of the growth in the coming 10 years to come from this region and Africa. The mass population is in this region and as more of them become financially able, having a car becomes a necessity. Unlike the West, where cars are bought for more practical reasons, here in Asia, people usually buy it to show they have reached a certain status in life, when one friend has one, the other would be more motivated to get one. Expect great things from the car industry in the Asia Pacific region.

Source: http://www.2point6billion.com

Image: aresauburn™

When the World Cup was going on in South Africa, everyone from around the world was watching it and wanted to get more information about the players and now some of the players are on twitter, giving updates of their lives to people who are lively when they are reading it. This player in Japan has taken the option of getting his own ".Asia" domain name and wishes to spread his fame online around the Asian region. It is a good move indeed, he was able to get a domain name which matches his real name and also by using Asia, instead of only Japan, he is able to reach out to a larger market and spread his news. In the past, people would have to hunt news about celebrities, and some were not even true, now with them having their own social networking sites and dedicated sites, you know the information you get from horse's mouth is going to be true.

An increasing number of private banks are targeting the children of ultra-high-net-worth clients in a bid to train the next generation of millionaires in the region. Standard Chartered is the newest kid on the
block having recently started a trainee programme for the children of
private-banking clients. It thus joins rivals including Citigroup, UBS
and JP Morgan Private Bank in reaching out to the next generation of
millionaires. Kids from all over the Asian region can enroll for this programme and it has started well. Why Asia? Asia's wealth may grow at double the global
pace over the next four years, a Boston Consulting Group report
published in June said. The emphasis of the banking industry has shifted to Asia in the past year after the economic crisis hit the banks big in the Western regions. The course will offer lectures, training, case studies of what to do in different situations and better equip the next generation on the idea of investment.

There is a reason why the big European and American banks are shifting their attention to this region. This is where the money is and where people are spending it actively. Targeting the children of the region is further vindication that they see the future as being very Asian indeed. In the coming 10-20 years, this is the region with the most population, highest increase in millionaires, most people online, so all signs for this being the main region in the world. Do have an Asian strategy for your business now.

Source: http://www.scmp.com

Image: LuMaxArt

Another benefit is that people around the Asian Pacific region look up to Japan for their fashion, right here in Hong Kong, people go to shops buying magazines for Japanese fashion so sites like these make perfect sense. They come from Japan because the site is in Japanese but they use the ".Asia" domain name so they can reach out and spread the message to many people. Also the domain name is very easy to remember and promote too, when used on billboards, people will remember it easier and also the SEO is improved when using this kind of domain name

How has he become famous around the world? He has used the internet to his advantage. By going online on his own website and using social networking sites, he has reached stardom much quicker. Korean artists are bypassing traditional outlets like radio and
television, "aggressively steering their efforts to go international via
the Internet," says Bernie Cho, president of DFSB Kollective, a
Seoul-based agency specializing in the international marketing of Korean
pop acts. With social media, they are able to reach out to markets like the United States and Europe, which would have been very hard before but now when you have tools like these to help you out, it would be insane not to do so.

Everyone is now on a level playing field when using the internet to promote. So now people in America, can turn on their television and listen to American artists and then they go online and they can check out Asian ones and see for themselves who is better. Asians are getting more exposure and awareness now and it is easier for them to spread the message. In Hong Kong, people are influenced by Japanese, Taiwanese and Korean music because they go online and listen to them. When stars take the initiative to go online and spread their message and interact with fans, more fans will come and listen to their music.

Source: http://www.time.com

Image: Stinkie Pinkie

to US$71.1 million in the first six months of this year from US$12.9
million in the same period last year. This increase is very drastic and comes to show that the economic crisis is well and truly over for this region. It was talked about here on keepclicking before how the air travel market here in Asia is on increase, with the area recording the most number of tourists. Also many big airlines have added more Asian routes to their roster to cash in on this surge. This group which has around 68 hotels around the region, saw the occupancy rates go up this year and the net profit took a positive swing too. There are plans in place to have further expansion in the Mainland later this year.

Asia has been the savior for many big companies and now for this fine hotel group, people have not stopped traveling actually here. Even when the economic crisis was in full frontal, people around here were still traveling around so it did not hurt that much. Asia is a region that has learnt from its lessons before and dare I say it, is bullet proof to this kind of crisis again, the sun is shinning already here and big companies are enjoying this like this hotel group.

Source: http://www.scmp.com

Image: galaygobi

Australia has been targeted as the top pin in the bowling alley and there are plans to enter other Asian markets soon too. There are lots of similarities between the West and Australia and it seems the best choice to test the Asian market and see best the company could enter it. When entering the Australian market, they will be looking to be present in the flagship shopping malls and main shopping areas. push into Australia is part of a move by global retailers to cash in on growing consumer wealth across Asia. They plan to open stores in Thailand and then the crown jewel, they plan to enter the China market very soon too to cash in on the huge spending of foreign clothes there.

Spending in the United States has slowed down drastically and this has accelerated the need to enter the Asian market. The people around this region and spending a lot and they have interest in trying new things too. Gap's head of strategic alliances Stefan Laban said, "What you are going to see over the next year is a really fast-paced expansion in Asian markets and The big focus is China now because the potential is massive; the strategy is to do the big cities first." Big companies are looking to the Asian region to save them and let them earn more profit and this is going to continue for many years ahead.

Source: http://www.abc.net.au

Image: David Chartier
It has signed a multi-year master franchise agreement with Clarence Corp. to
open 500 smoothie cafes in Japan and 12 other Asian countries. The main pull from the Asian region was the health issue. Asian consumers right now are very cautious about what food they are eating and want to make sure everything has some health element to it. Masahiro Koh, president of Tokyo-based Clarence said, "We believe Robeks, with its premium fruit smoothies, proprietary
supplements, and other all-natural products, will be a major player in
the made-to-order beverage restaurant category in Asia," In addition, they are also going to serve sandwiches, juices, salads and frozen yogurts and have plans to open these in shopping centers and in Universities around the region.

Even for a small company from United States, they see some pull factor in the Asia Pacific region and have done a full scale expansion into the region. When looking at the situation, people here in Asia are becoming more health conscious and prefer not only eating out but eating out in a healthy place. This is a great idea and this place will be doing very well around the region. A point to add here is that a company entering the region should highly consider going online too, dedicated website, social media engagement, these help to understand customers more and let customers know more about you.

Source: http://www.labusinessjournal.com

Image: Debs
