A small bakery from Beijing China has gone on to become much discussed in China and has received lots of orders recently, all thanks to the power of social media. Carol Chow, owner of the cupcake bakery CCsweets in Beijing, registered an account with sina.com 3 months ago and their business has never looked back. Everyday, Carol and her boyfriend would post and add pictures to theur blog and they have around 3000 followers making it the most successful online bakery yet. According to them, more than half of the customers who come into the shop do so because they have seen them online and want to give it a try. Comes to show the power of social media on the mainland is going up everyday. Recently, a girlfriend asked her to make a cake for her boyfriend with an IPhone application printed on it, it was done and she blogged about it, that application got more downloads, more people find out about the cake shop too and it was a real example and making your cake and eating it too.It is not just this small bakery which is benefiting a lot from social media on the Mainland. One of the biggest malls in Hong Kong, Harbor City is always feeling the benefit of being on social media bandwagon too. They have around 180,000 followers on Sina and most are from the mainland. It is a great way to communicate with the people on a more personal level, giving them information about discounts, fashion trends and so on. Although it does not lead to direct sales, it would keep them updated and give them a reason to visit the shopping arcade when they are here indeed. It is becoming very important to be on different social media platforms to communicate with different people now.
